VALLEJO, Calif. – The Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) and the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) are pleased to announce a new joint initiative, the Safe Start to School Days. This program is designed to ensure the safety of students and families during morning drop-off at select schools. Starting  Wednesday, April 23, through Friday, April 25, the Vallejo Police Department will provide added support to the community with increased police presence during peak morning drop-off hours.

The three-day initiative will focus on Patterson Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and Loma Vista Elementary Schools. These schools were selected based on high traffic volume and past safety concerns. Officers will be stationed at these schools during drop-off hours from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. to monitor traffic, assist with pedestrian safety, and improve overall visibility around the school zones.

The scheduled dates and locations for the initiative are as follows:

  • Patterson Elementary – Wednesday, April 23, 8-8:45 a.m.

  • Lincoln Elementary – Thursday, April 24, 8-8:45 a.m.

  • Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy – Friday, April 25, 8-8:45 a.m.

“We are excited to collaborate with the Vallejo Police Department to provide our families with a safer drop-off experience,” VCUSD Superintendent Rubén Aurelio said. “Our goal is to ensure every child gets to school safely and our community can confidently navigate the school zones.”

The initiative's primary focus will be addressing common concerns such as speeding vehicles, illegal parking, and pedestrian safety. VPD will take proactive measures, utilizing marked patrol vehicles and uniformed officers to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow. They will also work closely with school staff to provide safety support at crosswalks.

“This initiative is a part of our ongoing efforts to enhance safety in the community,” Vallejo Police Department Chief Jason Ta said. “Our goal is to deter dangerous driving behaviors and improve the overall safety of children as they travel to school.”
